Arts and culture are everywhere in Santa Fe, yet there is so much to do in the area. You and your family can spend parts of your days exploring the nearby hiking trails and gorgeous views, while other days can be spent exploring some of the best things to do in Santa Fe.
5 Best Things to Do in Santa Fe
Visit Meow Wolf Art Collective
Meow Wolf is an interactive experience that will transport you into a different universe. This is all completed using different works of art, music, and even videos. Despite the cultural feel of this attraction, not one person in your family will complain about being bored during your visit.
Walk Along Canyon Road
Canyon Road contains a half-mile of space that is filled with galleries, restaurants, and boutiques. You can easily spend an entire day in this part of Santa Fe exploring, so make sure you plan your visit accordingly.
Explore the Georgia O’Keefe Museum
Nine galleries within this museum are filled with items that share O’Keefe’s story and legacy. All her drawings, paintings, pastels, and watercolors are always on display. You can also gain insight into this artist by looking at the materials she used and many of her personal possessions.
Visit the San Miguel Chapel
The San Miguel Chapel is considered the oldest church in the United States. It is believed that this church was constructed back in 1610 and it has faced many restorations and renovations since that time. You can currently see the original dirt floor and sanctuary steps just past the Communion Rail. This entire building is quite the sight to see, but during your visit, you must pay close attention to the wooden alter screen and the four oval paintings on that screen.
Catch a Performance of the Santa Fe Opera
The Santa Fe Opera performs outside under the starry nighttime sky, which makes the entire performance more magical. You can easily choose to have a preview dinner or tailgate picnic prior to the opera performance. This will enhance your entire experience. You should also visit the Opera Shop to grab a few souvenirs to remember your time at the opera in Santa Fe.
These are the five best things to do in Santa Fe that isn’t hiking or exploring the great outdoors. Each one of these options will add some culture and art to your southwest vacation. While your family may balk at this idea at first, they will quickly realize that all the options above are interesting and fun.
