Between work, school, sports, and other activities, your family probably does not have too much downtime throughout the year. However, the cherished summer months are the perfect time to escape since school is out and certain activities slow down. If you have been wanting to take a family vacation for a while, you might be wondering what the five most popular summer vacation destinations are. Well, I have found them for you. And I can say that they are perfect if you are looking to spend more time with family while reconnecting with each other.
There are four hundred and twenty-three national parks, and you may want to see if your family can visit them all. Just not in one summer! Seriously though, visiting a national park during the summer is like hitting the lotto. Your family gets to spend time outside in nature. That time can be spent viewing wildlife, discovering different ecosystems, or simply hiking along the trails.
The best part about taking a vacation at a national park though is you practically get to choose your own family adventure. Most national parks offer something unique. And it may be that one unique thing that takes your family vacation to the next level. In Yellowstone, you can check out Od Faithful. It is all about the massive canyon at the Grand Canyon. And tall redwood trees are everywhere at Redwood National Park.
The sky is the limit when you take a summer vacation at any national park. Let me help you find the national park that will intrigue your family the most.
Alaska is a spectacular destination at any time of the year. Whether you choose to cruise around the water or spend time on land, you will have an amazing time. However, the summer months bring out the best in this fabulous state. First, the weather is incredible in Alaska during the summer. The temperatures may not get out of the sixties, but that is considered warm for this part of the country.
The beautiful weather also brings sunshine almost around the clock. Imagine being able to go out exploring at midnight without needing to worry about bringing a flashlight! There are just so many more hours in the day when you choose to vacation in Alaska during the summer.
One of the most important reasons to visit Alaska during the summer though is the wildlife is quite active. The moose, bald eagles, bears, and other animals are wandering around looking for food.
A summer family vacation in Niagara Falls brings opportunities to explore not only the American side of the falls, but the Canadian side as well. Picnic lunches at Niagara Falls State Park on the US side are very popular. This is the oldest state park in the country. Besides enjoying a picnic lunch, your family can ride on the Maid of the Mist, wander along Old Falls Street USA, and explore the Cave of the Winds. And if you are still around for dinner, a meal at the Top of the Falls Restaurant is a must.
Over on the Canadian side, gorgeous views of the falls can be seen from the Skylon Tower. Clifton Hill is where many of the souvenir shops are located, and the casino is just steps away from there as well. While there are so many things to do on this side, your family will want to make sure the floral clock is near the top of your list.
A summer vacation in Maine can include time at Acadia National Park or a visit to the shoreline. There is so much more to this wonderful state though. Your days can be spent discovering art, culture, and attractions like the Thompson Ice House. Or you can check out the puffins, whales, and other wildlife that lives within the state.
There are plenty of lighthouses to discover, but it will be the fresh seafood that will have you hanging around this state for a few extra days. You may even decide to head out on the water to grab your own dinner one night!
The state of Georgia is filled with family adventures. I recommend beginning with city life over in Atlanta and then making the drive over to Savannah to spend a little time on the coast. While you’re in Atlanta, you can drive up to Stone Mountain for a day. The kids will love the ropes courses, mini golf, and scenic train ride.
To get a little downtime in, the quaint town of Helen will have you thinking you stepped back in time. This Bavarian themed town is perfect for shopping, grabbing a bite to eat, and tubing adventures down the river.
When you arrive in Savannah, the kids won’t want to see the historic squares. However, they will be thrilled to grab souvenirs on River Street or over at the City Market. Your entire family will enjoy driving out to Tybee Island for a little time in the sand and to watch the dolphins out in the water.
These are the five most popular summer vacation destinations in the US. One of these destinations will be perfect for your next family vacation.
