Are you always looking for something to keep the kids occupied while you are traveling? Do you try to find options that do not involve screens filled with video games, movies, and television shows? Well, I have always found that playing games keeps the kids, and adults, happy while on family vacations. There are so many travel games to choose from. And while the kids can play them by themselves, you can join in on the fun too. Plus, these games are perfect for all the adults when the kids are finally in bed sleeping.
Before I get to the list of best travel games though, here are the guidelines I used to choose them. First, the game needed to be family-friendly and fun. If a game didn’t meet those standards, it was automatically off my list. Next, the travel games needed to be portable and easy to play on an airplane, in a car, and at the hotel. The last guideline involved the games being multi-player. After all, during a family vacation, no one should be playing a game by themselves!
Okay, so are you ready to learn about the best travel games for your next vacation? Here you go…
Codenames is an excellent game for teenagers who love to spy. The goal of this game is to contact and identify other spies without running into the assassin. You do this by using codenames and finding the color-based clues.
The cards in the Spot It games come in a tin, which makes it easy to pack and take on a family vacation. This simple travel game is perfect for younger kids, although older kids will enjoy it for a little bit too. Simply use the clues to spot the item on the cards to earn points to win.
There is nothing wrong with going back in time to your youth and purchasing Mad Libs for your entire family. This travel game involves adding random words to a story and then reading the now silly story out loud to everyone. If you need a few laughs on your next family vacation, Mad Libs will do the trick.
Instead of dragging the Monopoly board with you on vacation, grab a deck of Monopoly Deal cards. I promise, this version of the game is much shorter and yet, still as much fun! I recommend purchasing two or three packs of the cards, especially if you have a larger family.
Do you want your kids to learn something while on vacation? Or show you that they do actually know a few things? Well, Travel Blurt will have them doing just that! Simply read the clues and have everyone blurt out their answers. Keeping score is simple on the magnetic scoreboard.
Do your teens roll their eyes every time you tell a joke? During your next family vacation, pull out Pun Intended and let the laughter begin! Your teens will love guessing the puns, as they try to score the most points to win.
Kids of all ages love taking selfies (and they come out great). But when you ask those same kids to pose for a family photo, well, you never know what you will get! This travel game takes that to the next level. Your family will need to match the pictures of random people with popular movie lines. How well do you think your kids will do??
You cannot talk about travel games and not include Uno. This card game is a classic, whether you get the original or one of the newer versions. The original is perfect for kids of all ages, or at least above the age of six. Some of the newer versions are best for kids twelve and up.
The kids won’t like that they need to do math to play Yahtzee. But they will love making noise, as they shake the dice and roll. This classic game is another one that travels well. Simply pack the original version in a Ziploc bag or grab the newer travel version.
English class will be the last thing on your kids’ minds when you are on a family vacation. But you can sneak it in when you pack Travel Scrabble in your carry-on. The magnetic tiles ensure none of the pieces get lost, as everyone tries to outscore each other with high-value words.
These are some of the best travel games for your next family vacation. They are all easy to pack in your bags. Plus, they will provide hours of entertainment for everyone in your family.
