Over the years, I have been able to travel to numerous destinations. While that fueled my dreams to become a travel advisor, my occupation has only continued to drive me to visit as many different cities and countries as possible each year. I am thrilled to be taking a vacation in Hungary after a couple years of traveling less than I would have liked. Part of my vacation is with a tour group, so I can truly experience the authenticity of the area. One of my favorite days in Hungary was when I was able to explore the Egg Museum.
Visiting the Egg Museum During My Vacation in Hungary
In the country of Hungary, the egg represents life, rebirth, and fertility. The egg itself is a major part of folk traditions in the country, especially around the Easter holiday. When a woman gives a man an egg in Hungary, they are looking to be sprinkled with perfumed water in return.
You can find The Egg Museum in Zengővárkony. This museum embraces the folk tradition by displaying 2,400 eggs from around the world. One hundred sixty designers created all those eggs by using thirty different techniques.
Eggs are separated by region and country so I was able to see the differences in each one. Most of the eggs are from Europe, with many of those being from the Carpathian region. However, I saw eggs from more unique cultures like China, Indonesia, and even Israel.
I was able to take a guided tour of the museum. Therefore, I learned much more than I would have if I simply explored on my own. This museum has been open for more than twenty years now. Yet they are still planning to expand the museum even more by adding a library and research center.
I wish I was able to visit the Egg Museum while they had one of their egg painting competitions or at least one of their egg painting classes. They also hold other cultural events throughout the year, which would be fun to attend.
If you are planning a trip to Hungary, I highly recommend visiting the Egg Museum. It is one of the cultural attractions no one should miss while traveling near Pecs.
