Almost everyone has a travel bucket list. But how many people do you know that have gorilla trekking in Uganda on their travel bucket list? I am sure there are not many, which is why you might want to add this incredible adventure to yours! If you love the thought of spending time outside and seeing gorillas, I guarantee that this is a trip that you will remember forever. And if your kids love these things too, well, a family vacation in Uganda is going to be a win-win for everyone!
The mountain gorillas in Uganda live within the Impenetrable National Park in Bwindi and the Virunga Mountains in DRC. The national park is the best place to see the gorillas. Approximately 400 gorillas live within the park. But to see them, you must be willing to do a little bushwhacking through the jungle. You should also be prepared to get dirty too.
There are four regions in Bwindi. Those regions include Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo. I can help you book accommodations in the region you will be doing your gorilla trekking in Uganda. This will ensure you are in accommodations that are closest to your gorilla trekking departure spot.
Most people choose to do their gorilla trekking in Buhoma. Four groups of gorillas live in this section of the park. Those groups of gorillas even have names. The group names are Binyindo, Mubare, Habinyanja, and Rushegura.
You can easily go gorilla trekking in Uganda all year long. But it is usually best to do it during the dry season. The drier times of the year are from May through September, as well as the months of January and February.
It is best to go gorilla trekking in Uganda with a group. This will not only ensure your safety; it will also ensure you see gorillas out in the jungle. After all, the guides have been trained to find the gorillas and you haven’t!
When you arrive to meet your Uganda gorilla trekking group, you will be shown a video. The Ugandan Wildlife Authority will also share information about the gorillas with you.
The best part about gorilla trekking in Uganda with groups is that each group is very small. Too many people overwhelm the gorillas, so you should never be in a group that has more than eight people.
You never know how long it will take to find the gorillas in the Impenetrable National Park. Therefore, you should plan to be in the park for at least six hours or more. First, you must trek through the jungle to find the gorillas. Once you do find the gorillas, you get to spend an hour with them. During that time, you will observe them and can take pictures and videos. This is also the time to ask any questions you may have.
Afterward, it will be time to return to your starting point and the rest of your Uganda vacation.
You must have a permit to go gorilla trekking in Uganda. I can arrange for your group, permit, accommodations, and so much more for your family vacation in Uganda. Together we will create those memories that matter for your family.
