Do you enjoy biting into a moist, frosting-covered chocolate cupcake? I know I am always ready to enjoy a cupcake or two. No matter what the flavor! That’s one of the reasons why I am more than ready to celebrate National Chocolate Cupcake Day. As a travel advisor and frequent traveler, I have managed to eat cupcakes in many different destinations. If you haven’t started this travel tradition yet, let me know. I can point you in the direction of the best bakery for your next family vacation. Imagine the memories you can make with your kids over something as simple as a cupcake.
You may not know that cupcakes have been around since 1776. Amelia Simmons created the very first cupcake recipe. At that time, cupcakes were known as number cakes. The name didn’t change to cupcakes until around 1828.
New recipes were created in the late 1800s. And by 1919, you could finally find cupcakes in restaurants and bakeries.
Frosted cupcakes were not a thing until the 1920s. Although, I’m not sure why because who heard of eating a cupcake without frosting??!!
Over the years, more flavors have been introduced. Frosting flavors have evolved as well. As have the other toppings you can find on these sweet treats.
There are so many fun facts about cupcakes. You may know a couple of these already. However, I wanted to share in case you haven’t heard them before.
Planning a family ski vacation soon?? If you are headed to the Denver area, I recommend making plans to stop at Happy Cakes Bakeshop. The cupcakes at this bakery are unique. Oreo cookies garnish chocolate cupcakes, while the pumpkin cupcakes are topped with bourbon buttercream. There are plenty of flavors to choose from. So, don’t think you need to stick with chocolate cupcakes at this bakery.
If you are headed to the East Coast for your next family vacation, you may want to detour to Charlotte, NC. This is where the Polka Dot Bakeshop can be found. You won’t want to miss out on their yummy cupcakes. The cupcake flavors rotate daily, but they always have chocolate in stock. The early bird gets the worm at this bakery. They sell out quickly, so plan your visit carefully for the best options.
There is more than one Sprinkles Cupcakes in California. However, the Beverly Hills one is where you will spot multiple celebrities during your visit. You can get cupcakes at all their locations, though. As well as at Sprinkles cupcake ATMs. They sell so much more than cupcakes at these bakeries. But if you want to stick with cupcakes, I recommend salty caramel if you don’t want chocolate.
Oh, and keep an eye on Sprinkles’ Facebook page. They will release a secret code occasionally. When they do, and you use it during your visit, you can score a free cupcake with your purchase.
Family vacations in Oregon are incredible! Lots of time outdoors in nature is exactly what your family may need to make a few memories. When you vacation in Portland, Oregon, you may decide to check out the culinary scene. This is definitely a foodie destination, so I recommend bringing your appetites. Especially if you decide you want cupcakes from the Crave Bake Shop.
This bake shop sells gluten-free goodies that taste better than regular desserts. You will find all sorts of creatively named cupcakes at this shop, including chocolate. The chocolate salted caramel pretzel, peanut butter cup, and apple crisp are only a starting point of what you can purchase during your visit.
These are just a few of the places you can purchase chocolate cupcakes when you are on a family vacation. I guarantee you will find a new favorite bakery if you take the time to look while on vacation.
Since it is National Chocolate Cupcake Day, you are probably ready to devour a chocolate cupcake or two. I would say to head to one of these bakeries, but that may be impossible if you do not live nearby. You could head to your favorite local bakery, though. Or make some memories with your kids and bake your own chocolate cupcakes.
I would love to know which one you made for National Chocolate Cupcake Day. I would also like to know…
