Maui is one of the most visited Hawaiian Islands. Many people choose to spend their family vacations on this island for the gorgeous weather, Hawaiian culture, and delectable foods. However, your family may prefer to visit this beautiful Hawaiian Island for the spectacular waterfalls. There are so many waterfalls on Maui to choose from, so it can be difficult to know which ones to add to your Hawaiian itinerary. Thankfully, I know some of the best waterfalls in Maui, so I can help you with that dilemma.

Best Waterfalls in Maui

Alelele Falls

Alelele Falls on Maui is one of the best waterfall locations for families like yours. The hike to this waterfall in Maui is only and a half-mile round trip. And since the hike up the Hawaiian terraces is fairly easy, children of all ages can do it. This waterfall on Maui is only fifty feet high. But at the base is the perfect spot for a lazy day of swimming.

Seven Sacred Pools

The Seven Sacred Pools are also known as Oheo Gulch on the island of Maui. The waterfalls in this area cascade from one pool to the next. There are mostly seven pools for swimming at this location. However, if there has been a lot of rain, there are actually more pools for swimming. I do urge you to be cautious if you do decide to swim during your visit. If there has been a lot of rain, flash flooding is a possibility. That can make any dip in the pool quite dangerous. I always recommend reading the signs when you get to these waterfalls.

Wailua Falls

Wailua Falls is one of the best waterfalls on Maui to see when you are driving the Road to Hana. This waterfall is really close to the road. You won’t be able to miss it either, because there are usually lots of people crowding around it trying to take pictures. If you want a picture without the hassle of other people, you must walk down to the base of the eighty-foot waterfall. Most tourists won’t venture down that way, which is a shame since they are missing out on a wonderful swim in the pool!

Makamakaole Falls

Does your family love to go on adventures? If you said yes, then you are going to want to consider adding Makamakaole Falls to your list of things to do during your family vacation in Maui! The hike to this waterfall in Maui has thirteen stream crossings. As you are crossing the stream, you will be surrounded by bamboo and a lush jungle. After the last crossing, you will reach a fork in the path. Either direction will lead you to a gorgeous Hawaiian waterfall and swimming holes.

Pua’a Ka’a Falls

Pua’a Ka’a Falls is actually two waterfalls, and they are each a short walk from where you will park your car. Simply drive the Road to Hana until you reach the Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside Park. The paved stairway will lead you to the first waterfall, which is always crowded. The second waterfall can be reached via the dirt path. You must walk a little more to reach the second waterfall. It is worthwhile though because there are never too many people there.

Waimoku Falls

A quick four-mile round-trip hike along the Pipiwai Trail will have you seeing the stunning four-hundred-foot Waimoku Falls. This waterfall on Maui is also surrounded by a bamboo forest. But you may want to pay closer attention to the giant banyan tree, as well as the nearby apple grove. This is another waterfall in Maui you can reach when you decide to drive the Road to Hana.

Twin Falls

When you hike to the Twin Falls in Maui, you will find yourself beginning at a working farm. No worries because there is no charge to enter the farm or the trail to the waterfalls. The flat trail will take your family to Twin Falls in less than ten minutes. While those falls are spectacular, it is the next set of waterfalls that will take your breath away. The second set of waterfalls on this trail requires a slightly longer hike. However, the round trip is less than two miles. The trail beyond the gate isn’t challenging, but your feet will get wet. The locals call this set of waterfalls Caveman Falls. The pool at the bottom is the perfect place to go swimming in solitude.

Honokohau Falls

If you truly want to see the best waterfall in Maui, you must include Honokohau Falls on your list of things to do. Your family will only be able to see this eleven-hundred-foot waterfall from the inside of a helicopter. I can include this helicopter ride in your customized itinerary. It is best to take this adventure during the early morning hours when there are fewer clouds.
