Europe is known for its all-encompassing beauty. Plus, the numerous popular attractions everyone wants to see at least once in their lifetime. So, how is it that there are some underrated places in Europe? I’m not sure why certain places in Europe are more popular than others. I do know that I have a few underrated places in Europe that everyone should consider adding to their family vacation list. Today, I am going to share some of those underrated places in Europe with you. If you are looking for more underrated destinations, check out these underrated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Okay, so I don’t want to sound like Scrooge, but Bah Humbug with Santa Claus Village in Finland is on this list! You will find Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, which is in Lapland, Finland. This charming place was created to bring you as close to the North Pole as possible.
A family vacation here will have you checking out Santa’s Workshop and a working snow village. As an added bonus, you can see the Northern Lights during your stay.
The only downside I see to vacationing here in Finland is there is only a couple of hours of sunlight each day. I say that is a small price to pay for the amazing opportunities you will have to make memories with your family there.
Anyone who loves vampires will want to consider taking a vacation in Perperikon in Bulgaria. This ancient city has been known for its vampire legends. The city has been buried for some time and only approximately ten percent of it is excavated. That is enough, though, since a vampire grave was already discovered. Inside the grave, there is a man with a stake through his heart. The iron stake was placed there to ensure this man did not rise from the dead to disturb the living.
Sicily hardly gets any visitors compared to Pisa and Rome. Yet, this island is home to many incredible sights. One of those sights is the Il Campanile del Duomo di Messina or The Astronomical Clock of the Cathedral of Messina. You will find this clock next to an ornate church. Every day at noon, a golden lion comes out of the tower to roar at noon.
The roaring continues for fifteen minutes before a rooster appears, followed by Jesus’ apostles and family. It is quite the experience to gather at the clock with the locals each day.
This is the last complete community in Ireland that only speaks Gaelic. Ring Gaeltacht is located on the Southeast Coast of the country. Every day, the locals spend their time telling stories, singing, and dancing as their ancestors did.
These are the most underrated places in Europe. You may want to consider visiting at least one of them during a future family vacation. Each one offers unique activities, as well as places to see. That means they will intrigue your family as you make those memories you will cherish for a lifetime.
