As an expert family travel advisor, I spend my days creating custom itineraries for families of all sizes. Over the years, I have spent time working with reputable companies, as we have created custom itineraries for all different destinations. I have used the skills I have acquired to continue creating amazing Masai Mara safaris that are perfect for family vacations. There is something that is simply spectacular about spending time amongst the wildlife in nature. Your entire family will love the eight days you get to explore during a Masai Mara safari. In fact, you may be enjoying yourselves so much that you won’t want to return home!
You will have an expert guide leading you on every safari you take during your time in Masai Mara. These expert guides offer a wealth of information about the area, as well as the wildlife you will see. You will want to pay close attention to your guides as they are speaking, or you may miss out on a chance to see something exciting.
Your goal will be to arrive early in Nairobi, if you possibly can, on day one of your Masai Mara safari family vacations. If I can arrange an early flight for you, your family will have the opportunity to explore Nairobi National Park.
You may also have time to visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Orphaned baby elephants live there. Your kids will fall in love with those elephants and may even beg you to take one home. Don’t worry; it will be simple to say no to them for this request!
After a good night’s sleep, your guide will take you to Tsavo West National Park. If you didn’t get enough sleep the night before, you have a four-hour journey in front of you. So, you can always take a nap before the real adventures begin. The kids will most likely love this part of the plan!
When you arrive at the park, you will head out on a game drive. There are so many animals living within this park. Hopefully, your family will at least see black rhinos, zebra, lions, antelope, giraffes, cheetahs, and elephants.
Before you leave Tsavo West, you will be taken to Mzima Spring, as well as the nearby lava flows. Don’t be surprised if you happen to spot a few crocodiles during your visit. They love spending time near the water.
Day three will have your family traveling to Amboseli National Park. Once you have checked into your accommodations, it will be time to head out on another game drive. This one will have you all enjoying views of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Don’t worry if you don’t see too much but the massive mountain during this drive. You will have another drive at Amboseli National Park on the morning of day four of your Masai Mara safari.
As I mentioned above, this morning will be spent spotting the wildlife at Amboseli National Park. The morning will go by quickly, and before you know it, it will be time to travel all the way to Lake Naivasha.
After a long day of travel on day four, you will be more than ready for your boat cruise on Lake Naivasha today. This is an incredible opportunity because the boat ride will allow you to see hippos swimming in the lake and buffalo feeding on the shoreline.
Later in the day, you will make the trek to Lake Nakuru to see even more wildlife during a game drive.
Your Masai Mara safari family vacation will be almost over by the time you leave Lake Nakuru National Park on the morning of day six. However, there are still a couple of days left for you all to make a few memories to cherish for a lifetime!
Let your entire family feel the excitement as you head out to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This famous reserve is the perfect spot to see animals in a habitat that has been mostly unchanged for more than a century.
If you plan your family vacation right, you may capture a glimpse of the Great Migration. This normally takes place between July and September each year. The dates do vary, as the weather plays a big part in when the animals decide to change locations.
Hopefully, your family relaxes during the little downtime you have on day six because day seven will be a busy one! This entire day will be spent exploring the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You are guaranteed to see multiple crocodiles and hippos during your visit. As well as all the other animals that live within this game reserve.
I recommend having your smartphone or camera’s batteries charged and maybe having backup batteries too. You will be taking a lot of pictures on this next to the last day of your family vacation.
As long as you get up early enough on the last day of your Masai Mara safari, you will all have the chance to head back out on one last game drive. Make the effort because it won’t be long before you are transported back to the airport in Nairobi to hop onto a plane to go back home.
