Traveling alone as a woman can be an incredibly empowering experience. One of the best destinations for solo female travelers is Europe. This continent is packed with walkable cities, excellent public transportation, diverse cultures, and welcoming locals. Today, I am sharing the best destinations for solo female travelers in Europe. These destinations include historical sites, scenic landscapes, tasty cuisine, and vibrant atmospheres.
Denmark is an incredible country that is often high on travel bucket lists for places to explore. The city of Copenhagen happens to be one of the safest places in the world. During solo travel in Copenhagen, you will experience sustainable living, an incredible cycling culture, and amazing hygge, which is cozy, comfortable living.
I recommend visiting Nyhavn first when you arrive in Copenhagen. This picturesque harbor is lined with historic wooden ships and colorful buildings. Relax while enjoying a cup of coffee and checking out the views. Or venture out on a boat tour to see this beautiful city from the perspective of the canals.
Of course, you cannot spend time in Copenhagen without planning a visit to Tivoli Gardens. This is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world. Fairy-tale-like gardens give off magical vibes. And yet, more magic awaits on the rides themselves. Plan to stay later into the evening, so you can see how enchanting this destination is once the lights turn on.
Oh, and if you love fairy tales, the Little Mermaid Statue is a must-see during your solo female vacation in Copenhagen. This statue is a tribute to Hans Christian Andersen. Plan for a little extra time while visiting the statue, because there is always a crowd of people waiting for a selfie.
One of the best ways to explore Copenhagen is by bike. Rent a bike and then travel along the dedicated cycling lanes throughout the city to see all the sights on your itinerary. I can help you plan this trip, so you don’t miss any of the amazing sights Copenhagen has to offer.

Amsterdam is another one of the best destinations for solo female travelers in Europe. Upon arriving in Amsterdam, you will fall in love with the laidback vibe mixed in amongst the culture and history. No one seems to be in a rush in this gorgeous city. And that should be fine with you, as you explore at your own pace.
If the Anne Frank House is on your list of must-see sites, make sure I am aware while beginning to plan your vacation in Amsterdam. Tickets for this museum sell out quickly months in advance. So, planning ahead is key for this part of your solo female vacation.
It will be much easier to see the works of art by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh inside the Rijksmuseum. And you won’t want to skip past exploring the shops, art galleries, and cozy cafes in the Jordaan District.
I highly recommend you take the time to explore the local markets in Amsterdam. Albert Cuyp Market is one of the best local markets. Arrive hungry at this market, because you will find a large selection of delicious street foods, as well as fresh produce. And trust me when I say you will be ready to indulge in it all!
A traditional Dutch cheese shop should also be on your list of places to visit, so you can sample fresh Edam and gouda.
A unique way to explore Amsterdam is via canal at sunset. I can make reservations for a sunset cruise on a canal, so you can see the city all lit up from the water.
Travel Tip: Essential must-have items for solo female travelers.
As a solo female traveler, you know your vacation will include all the adventures and activities you are personally interested in. If you love medieval history, dramatic landscapes, and literary legends, Edinburgh, Scotland is the perfect destination in Europe for you!
The best part is this city is quite walkable. So, you never need to worry about how you are going to get from one attraction to another.
Start your vacation fun with a visit to Edinburgh Castle. You will find this historic fortress perched upon a volcanic rock. Outside of the castle, you must spend time being mesmerized by the gorgeous views. And on the inside, you will get lots of insights into the royal past of Scotland.
After your visit to Edinburgh Castle, walk along the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This palace is the official residence of the King of Scotland. Although, it may take you a while to reach the palace since you will be stopping at many of the shops, historic buildings, and Scottish pubs along the way.
One of the unique things to do in Edinburgh is going on a ghost tour. These tours will take you down into the underground vaults, as well as down spooky alleyways. You’ll hear many of the eerie haunted stories this city is known for, while exploring these areas.
You will get quite thirsty while exploring Edinburgh during your solo female vacation. A little traditional Scottish whiskey will quench your thirst. Especially if you sip your whiskey during a tasting session during The Scotch Whiskey Experience.
Check out these other historical destinations to consider as a solo female traveler.
Another fairy-tale-like city in Europe in Prague. This Czech Republic city is often high on the list of best destinations for solo female travelers in Europe. Plus, it is a walkable city filled with a lively cultural scene, rich history, and plenty of Gothic and Baroque architecture.
You may think you cannot get lots of pictures of yourself while you are traveling solo. However, you will be surprised with how many of the locals, as well as fellow travelers, will be more than happy to photograph you enjoying your vacation. Plus, you can always take selfies at different attractions like the Charles Bridge in Prague.
Over in the Old Town Square, you can grab a selfie with the infamous Astronomical Clock. Then explore the rest of the area by checking out the medieval buildings and the vibrant markets.
I highly recommend visiting the Lennon Wall while on a solo female vacation in Prague. This wall is a colorful tribute to John Lennon, as well as a symbol of peace. A river cruise on the Vltava River is another must-do activity while in Prague.
Everyone seems to think that Iceland is a cold destination year-round. However, it isn’t as cold as you may think. Especially during the summer months.
The city of Reykjavik is an excellent place to stay while exploring the country of Iceland. I can easily arrange for day trips to waterfalls, volcanoes, and the infamous Blue Lagoon.
On the days you stay in the city, you will discover there are plenty of things to do to keep you busy. Start with a visit to the Perlan Museum. This museum is an excellent place to learn about the natural wonders of the country.
As you are walking around Reykjavik, keep an eye on Hallgrimskirkja Church. This is the tallest church in the city. You can see it from almost anywhere. And when you visit the actual church, head to the top for incredible views of Reykjavik.
If you do not have a lot of time to spend in Iceland, I recommend driving along the Golden Circle. It is the easiest way to see numerous waterfalls, geysers, and Þingvellir National Park in a short amount of time.
While you can take a solo female vacation in Iceland at any time of the year, it is best to go between the months of September and April. These months are when you have the greatest chance to experience the Northern Lights.
The city of Stockholm is spread out on fourteen islands. Although, there are actually thirty thousand islands within the archipelago. So, it is a safe bet that you won’t be able to explore every island during your solo female travels in this part of Europe. However, you will be able to see many of them from a distance if you take a boat tour.
History is everywhere in this beautiful city. Start at the Vasa Museum to see the 17th century warship that sunk on its maiden voyage. Then venture over to the UNESCO site of Drottningholm Palace to see the royal residence up close.
Breakfast should be spent at a cozy café, as you enjoy a cinnamon bun with a hot steaming cup of coffee. Just don’t spend all day there, because the ABBA Museum will be waiting for you to dance through the exhibits.
Out of all the cities in Italy, the best destination for solo female travelers is Florence. There are many reasons for this, but my favorite reasons include the compact size and Italian charm.
As you visit top attractions like the Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, and Ponte Vecchio, make sure you stop and try all the authentic gelato. Especially flavors like pistachio and stracciatella.
Although, you can’t live on gelato while on vacation in Florence. I bet you would love to try though!
Thankfully, there are quite a few Italian dishes that will quickly become your favorites. One of the easiest ways to incorporate these Italian dishes into your rotating menu back home is to take a cooking class. These cooking classes are led by Italian chefs who will teach you how to make amazing pizza, pasta, and so much more.
Before your solo travel vacation in Florence is over, watch the sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo. The magnificent views will take your breath away. While you can capture it in pictures, take a little time to embed it in your memory as well. After all, the memories you make during this solo trip will be with you forever.
I recommend you mentally prepare for a lot of walking if you plan on visiting Bruges, Belgium for your next solo vacation in Europe. Bruges is one of the walkable cities on the list of best destinations for solo female travelers in Europe.
An easy way to start feeling comfortable while visiting this city is wandering around Market Square. This lively area is filled with colorful historic buildings and cafes. Plus, it is safe for women traveling solo in this area of Europe.
I recommend tackling the Belfry of Bruges in the morning one day. This ensures you are well rested and ready to climb the 366 steps to see the panoramic views from the top. Of course, the number of steps you climbed up is also the number of stairs you must go back down.
You may need to rest for the remainer of the day after tackling all those steps. Or you can put on a stoic face and visit a chocolatier to eat a little Belgium chocolate. Of course, I could also plan a visit to the chocolatier on the day before your visit to the Belfry of Bruges. This would ensure you have chocolate ready and waiting for you when you reach the bottom of the belfry.
And if you are still sore the following day, I recommend a canal tour to see the city from the water. You may also want to visit De Halve Maan for a tour of the brewery, as well as a pint or two.
The city of Dubrovnik is known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. The medieval architecture, coastal views, and relaxed vibe makes it one of the best destinations for solo female travelers in Europe.
An incredible way to experience the views in Dubrovnik is to walk along the historic City Walls. Keep your camera ready for all those breathtaking views you want to remember long into the future.
Then venture over to the Old Town to check out the historic buildings. Or take a boat to Lokrum Island to experience nature at its finest.
Game of Thrones lovers will want to see the filming locations up close. There are numerous tours you can take to ensure you don’t miss where your favorite scene was filmed. I can arrange for your tour while I plan your solo travel vacation in Dubrovnik.
Every solo female vacation in Europe should include a little downtime at the beach. I recommend Banje Beach by the Adriatic Sea while in Dubrovnik. Of course, you can head out onto the water in a kayak to see marine life up close if you don’t want to lounge on the beach.
Consider these other themed tours for solo women travelers.
Santorini is one of the Greek Islands that many couples choose for romantic vacations in Europe. However, that shouldn’t stop you from considering this island for your solo female travels. Especially since it is one of the safest destinations in Europe for solo female travelers.
A favorite thing to do in Santorini is wandering through Oia. This infamous village is also the perfect spot to watch the sunset every evening.
The ruins in Ancient Thera and the dramatic red volcanic cliffs at Red Beach are two other destinations to visit while on vacation in Santorini.
When you are not exploring, or relaxing on a sandy beach, I recommend spending time out on the Aegean Sea. The sunset cruises are perfect for those who are traveling solo in the Greek Islands.
Check out the reasons why you should embrace solo female travel for your next vacation.
Valletta may be the smallest of all the capital cities in Europe. However, you will discover it is packed with history, stunning views of the sea, and an extraordinary Mediterranean vibe.
A couple of the attractions I recommend visiting in Valletta include the Upper Breakfast Gardens, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and Fort St. Elmo.
Of course, you won’t want to skip past the chance to explore the Three Cities while on vacation in Malta. Those Three Cities include Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua.
Add in a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon and plenty of Maltese cuisine at mealtime, and your solo vacation in Malta will be one for the history books!
