Does your family love to devour pizza when they are hungry? Many families have a love for pizza, whether thin crust, deep dish, or somewhere in between. Since this is National Deep Dish Pizza Day, I thought I would share a few of the best destinations to visit to grab a slice. You may want to plan a vacation in one of these destinations, so can determine which one offers the best deep dish pizza in the country.
Okay, so we all know that the city of Chicago has long been known as the best place to grab a slice of deep dish pizza. When you order an authentic pizza in Chicago, it will be brought out to you in a cast iron pan. Over at Giordano’s, you can order a multitude of deep dish options. However, their most popular menu item is the stuffed pizza. Biting into the stuffed pizza will have you sinking your teeth into a bottom crust filled with cheese and toppings before reaching another layer of dough, as well as tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. Other must-try pizza places in Chicago include Mi Pi Pizza, Connie’s Pizza, and Ricobene’s.
The deep dish pizza in Detroit may not be as infamous as the pizza in Chicago, but it is still pretty tasty. Detroit’s deep dish pizzas are square instead of round, which adds another layer of gooeyness with the cheese and sauce. Buddy’s is still the go-to destination in Detroit for pizza. This restaurant opened in 1946 and there are now multiple locations in the city. Other restaurants in Detroit you may want to visit include Belle Isle Pizza, Niki’s Pizza, and Shield’s Restaurant Bar Pizzeria.
The city of Buffalo might be known for the Buffalo Bills and chicken wings, but you can also grab an amazing deep dish pizza there. You won’t find a ton of deep dish offerings at restaurants in this city, but the ones you find will melt in your mouth. Gino’s NY Pizza is an excellent place to start your family’s pizza journey in Buffalo. One of their most popular pizzas is the Bleu Chicken, which is topped with bleu cheese and buffalo chicken. Basically, you can have your pizza and wings all at once! Other restaurants to try in Buffalo include JJs Casa di Pizza and LaPorta’s Pizzeria.
A family-owned restaurant in Cleveland is where you will find the best deep dish pizza. Antonio’s opened back in 1967 and there are now more than a dozen locations. Your family can choose from a multitude of toppings at this pizza joint, so everyone can have their favorite slice.
You may be shocked that you can find deep dish pizza when you are on vacation in San Francisco. The pizza at Capo’s does not have as thick of a crust as Chicago’s pizza, but it is not as paper-thin as New York’s crusts. There are so many different pizzas to order at this restaurant. Don’t be surprised if your family orders more than you can all eat in one sitting.
These are a few of the best destinations to visit for a deep dish favorite. While National Deep Dish Pizza Day is an excellent time to visit them all, there is no rule that says you can’t choose your own time of the year to enjoy the excellent pizza.
