History is everywhere within the caves in Fiji. Your family will enjoy taking a tour of the many caves, to see the underground world and learn what happened down there many years ago. Just keep in mind that some of the history is slightly scary. Cannibalism was often practiced on the Fijian Islands, so this might not be the best option for younger children or those who are sensitive to topics like this.

In Suva, your family can watch a Fire Walking Festival. The participants begin the festival by taking a bath out in the Fiji waters. They then pierce their bodies with skewers and actually walk on fire. 

Wandering Through the Garden of the Sleeping Giant

There are calmer things your family can do during a vacation in Fiji. Wandering through the Garden of the Sleeping Giant is one of them. Walking along the boardwalk is relaxing. So is sitting by the lily ponds and checking out the different Asian orchid species.

There are multiple hiking trails on many of the Fijian Islands. Some of those trails are within national parks, while others can be discovered in the least expected places. Colo-i-Suva Forest is one of the better places to hike, especially if you only want to spend a short time on the trails.

The cultures of Fiji are slightly different than they are going to be back home. Nadi is an excellent place to begin your cultural adventures. Your family can shop at the souvenir markets to purchase everything from hand painted sarees to wooden kava bowls. When you are finished shopping, you must venture over to take a bath in the mud pool. It is an experience your entire family will never forget!

Helicopter Rides

One of the easiest ways to see a few of the Fijian Islands from a different perspective is via a helicopter ride. The aerial views will have your family seeing sights you may have missed down on land.
