There are four different routes available for carriage tours of Charleston. Each one is amazing, but you don’t get to choose the one you want. Instead, the driver stops at a kiosk that will tell them which route they must take. Therefore, you must be prepared to see the same route, even if you take four different tours.  

Every Guide is Different 

Each guide that leads the carriage tours of Charleston is amazing. However, they each have their own style. Some even know a little more about certain facts than others. This means you could take the same route two or more times and still learn something new.  

Plan Your Carriage Tour of Charleston Carefully 

It can get extremely hot later in the day during the spring, summer, and fall of Charleston. I usually recommend taking a carriage tour earlier in the day to ensure you can take one. The reason for this is once the temperature hits 98 degrees, the tours are stopped until it cools down.  

When to Purchase Your Tickets 

It is not a necessity to purchase your tickets in advance for a carriage tour of Charleston. I do recommend it, though, if you are visiting during a popular time of the year. It is also an excellent idea on weekends and for those romantic evening tours.  

Don’t Expect Horses to Pull You Every Time 

While horses pull most of the carriages in Charleston, there are a few that are pulled by mules. Do not think that your carriage tour will be any less authentic if it is pulled by mules. You will still have the same experiences, just a different animal up in front.
