We may still have a few months left before we reach the end of another year. However, it is never too early to plan an incredible family vacation for the spring. Whether you want to escape the hustle and bustle of life with your family. Or take advantage of spring break. There are tons of options for family vacations during the spring. Today, I am sharing some of the most underrated spring destinations in the US. You won’t find crowds in these spring destinations like you would in the most popular destinations. This may be exactly what your family needs to enjoy this memorable time away from home.
Vail is known as a major ski destination during the winter months. But did you know that it is a wonderful place to visit during the spring?
Most of the time, the ski season has yet to come to an end in early spring. This means your family can still hit the slopes. The best part is those slopes won’t be too crowded, because many skiers have hung up their skis and poles for the season.
If you don’t want to ski, you can always head out on a whitewater rafting trip on the river. Or hike one of the numerous trails in the mountains. One of the most popular hikes is the Booth Falls route. This hike takes you to a magnificent waterfall.
Other hikes your family may want to consider include Shrine Pass and Lost Lake Trail.
I can understand your family not wanting to visit Alaska during the winter months. And yet, you may be thinking of avoiding this area during the summer too, since it is often crowded.
Well, spring is often the perfect time to visit Juneau and other areas of Alaska. The temperatures begin to rise. The snow melts. And the flowers start to bloom. Oh, and the wildlife starts to emerge from their winter slumber.
Your favorite part of visiting at this time of the year though is the whales starting to migrate to this area. Humpback whales and gray whales begin to arrive during the month of April. So, you have an excellent chance of seeing them, as well as the orcas who are in the water all year long.
Numerous festivals take place in Juneau during the spring too. Your family may want to attend one of them to learn more about Alaskan culture and traditions.
Savannah is a popular destination in Georgia during the spring. People flock to the beach there to enjoy the soft sand and slightly warm water. If you prefer one of the underrated spring destinations in the US, I recommend considering Jekyll Island for your family vacation.
Jekyll Island is one of the Golden Isles. During your family vacation here, you can stroll along Driftwood Beach. Other fun activities include horseback riding on the beach, dolphin tours, and riding a bike around the island.
Early spring is a wonderful time to explore Yellowstone National Park without the crowds. This is also when the waterfalls throughout this park are at their peak when it comes to water flow. To put this in perspective, the Lower Falls has more than sixty thousand gallons of water rushing over per second in the spring. During the fall, the flow drops to around five thousand gallons per second.
You’ll also get better pictures of Old Faithful, because there won’t be tons of people around. Make sure you keep your camera handy around the rest of the park too. This is the time of year when you will see lots of baby wildlife wandering around.
The island of Nantucket is only forty-eight square miles. You can reach this island either by plane or ferry from the Cape.
Most people spend time on this island during the summer months. That makes spring the perfect time to enjoy the ambiance.
If you visit during the month of April, your family will want to check out the Daffodil Festival. It is a local favorite with more than three million daffodils in bloom around the island.
Other options during your visit include visiting the whaling museum, walking along the cobblestone streets, and checking out the lighthouses.
These are the most underrated spring destinations in the US. You may want to check one of them out during a future family vacation, so you can avoid crowds and make a few memories that matter.
