Are you tired of spending time in destinations everyone else knows about? Would you love to get away from it all and make a few memories with your family without the crowds? Well, to accomplish that, you may want to visit one of the lesser-known countries around the world. There are a few countries that not too many people know about. And yet, they are incredible when it comes to family vacations. Today, I am going to share a couple of the best lesser-known countries with you, so you can consider them for your next family vacation. You might want to make sure your passport is in order, so you can jet off to one of these countries as soon as you can secure the vacation time.
You will find Vanuatu, which is an island archipelago, within the South Pacific. I have never heard anything bad about the South Pacific, which is why these islands are at the top of my list. I mean, you have amazing weather, soft sandy beaches, and the rest of the things you desire when spending time in paradise.
Tanna Island is a favorite vacation destination thanks to the active Yasur volcano. Other islands hold the beauty from volcanos Ambae, Ambrym, and Lopevi.
One of the thrilling activities on these islands is bungee jumping. Over on Pentecost Island, people have been bungee jumping for many years during the yam harvest festival. The locals simply tied vines to their ankles before diving off a ninety-eight-foot-high wooden tower. Don’t worry, you can now utilize apparatus that is safer, so you aren’t relying on vines for this exhilarating experience.
You will find the country of Tajikistan in Central Asia. The city of Dushanbe is now filled with massive skyscrapers. Your family can spend plenty of time wandering around the city streets. However, to really appreciate this part of the world, I recommend heading out into the country.
It is there where you can follow the ancient Silk Road. This journey will take you through the Pamir Mountains until you reach the Jisev Valley. Another option is to spend time at Iskanderkul, which is a lake in the Fann Mountains.
If you love wine, and you have adult children who do to, then a vacation in Moldova should be in your future. Especially in October when a wine festival is held in the capital city of Chisinau. If you can’t visit during that month, you can still taste the fine wine this lesser-known country produces.
Not too far from Chisinau is the largest wine cellar in the world. At least by the number of wine bottles stored inside. Just don’t skip a visit to Old Orhei. It is a monastery that has two thousand years of history.
Oh, and the mansions over in Gypsy Hill are quite a sight to see if you have a little extra time.
During a safari vacation in Africa, you may want to add a stop in Eswatini. You can spot a lot of wildlife in this South African country. This is also a fantastic place to go white water rafting. The Great Usutu River has rapids for your family to tackle all year long.
Another thrilling adventure will take you over the Malolotja grasslands on horseback. The memories you can make with your family in Eswatini are numerous.
San Marino is one of the smaller lesser-known countries in the world. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in beauty. Head up to the craggy perches on the towers to see stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine Mountains.
Venture into the capital city to wander along the cobblestone streets. Those streets will lead you to museums, churches, and stores filled with items to remember this lesser-known country by.
The best attraction in San Marino though is the parliament building. You will learn quite a bit of history during your visit to this building. However, the most unique history will be the fact President Abraham Lincoln was giving dual citizenship in San Marino. He never made it to the country, but a bust is on display in the parliament building in his honor.
These are the best lesser-known countries to consider for your next family vacation. If you are searching for a unique destination to escape the crowds and distractions, one of these countries might check off all the boxes for you. The best part is I can personalize your family vacation in the lesser-known country you choose, so you can have the experiences you want during this time away from home.
