The country of England is often known for its history, afternoon tea, and famous attractions. Oh, and you can’t forget the Royal Family. However, there is so much more than the larger cities in England. The Cotswold region is considered one of the most magical places. It is a small, fairytale region that is simply gorgeous. Actually, the Cotswolds have even been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You may have already seen some of Cotswold in movies or television shows. After all, it has been chosen as the setting in numerous shows and movies over the years. Although, nothing seems to beat visiting this region in person. This is why you should enjoy a family vacation in Cotswold. Plus, it is so simple to travel like a local in England.
There are so many amazing things to do while enjoying a family vacation in Cotswold. But today, I am going to share the villages you should consider visiting during your Cotswold family trip. This way, you can get an idea of where you want to spend your time during this special trip to England.
The name of this village may be difficult to pronounce, but it is one of the best ones to visit while on vacation in Cotswold. Cirencester is one of the larger villages too. Therefore, it is also one of the most popular.
During your time in this village in Cotswold, you can visit the Corinium Museum, check out the ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre, and see the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist. A picnic at Cirencester Park is also a nice way to spend a couple of hours of your day.
Don’t let the names of these villages fool you. They are actually quite charming and beautiful. The villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter are only one mile apart. They meet at the River Eye.
You will find more attractions in Lower Laughter. However, that doesn’t mean you should skip over the upper village since they are so close together.
Broadway is one of the best villages in Cotswold for food and antique lovers. Yet, there is so much more for families here. Little ones will enjoy all the family-friendly activities inside Activity Park.
Older kids will want to check out Clay Pigeon Shooting, while adults will prefer the Cotswold Distillery Tour. The best views of the village can be seen from the top of the Broadway Tower. You simply need to climb three stories to see those views.
Burford is the village that is known as the Gateway to the Cotswolds. A walk down High Street will allow your family to reach a medieval stone bridge. That bridge crosses directly over the River Windrush.
A couple of hours can be spent at the Burford Tolsey Museum. Or at the Burford Garden Center. But if the kids get bored, you can all head into the boutiques and antique stores to do a little shopping.
Chipping Campden is another one of the larger villages in Cotswold. This village hosts many of the festivals within Cotswold throughout the year. If you want to attend one, simply let me know, and we can plan your family trip to Cotswold accordingly.
You may feel as if you have stepped into a Tolkien novel when you enter the village of Stow-on-the-Wold. Especially when you see the two yew trees outside St. Edward’s Church.
Your family will find plenty to do in this small village. Start by wandering through the bookstores. Then hang out in the market square or a local café with a cup of coffee or tea. Don’t forget to walk around and admire the golden cottages.
Painswick is one of the most photogenic villages in Cotswold. Make sure your camera’s batteries are charged before you head to the churchyard. There are almost one hundred yew trees located there. They all create a unique backdrop.
Another stunning place to visit in Painswick is Rococo Garden.
If your family loves toys, you should take the time to visit the Cotswold Motoring Museum and Toy Collection in Bourton-on-the-Water. Another fun family activity is tackling the Labyrinth at the Dragonfly Maze. It shouldn’t take you too many hours to find your way out!
These are the best villages to visit when you are enjoying a family vacation in Cotswold. Of course, I can add any of the other villages in Cotswold when I personalize your family vacation there.
