Everything You Must Know About The Charleston City Market

The Charleston City Market is one of the oldest public markets in the country. You will find this market with more than three hundred vendors within the heart of this fabulous city. There are actually two different types of markets. They are the day market and the night market. The day market is open every day of the year with the exception of Christmas. The night market is only open from the middle of March through December.

Charleston City Market Open Air Sheds

There are three different open-air sheds at this market. They have been around for more than two centuries now. Each one is filled with many small businesses selling their items to the public.

Charleston City Market Great Hall

The Great Hall is a newer addition to the market. It wasn’t opened until June of 2011. This enclosed space added an eighteen thousand foot plus corridor to the shopping space that was already available. There are many different stores in this space. It is one of the many areas where you can purchase the sweetgrass baskets this city is known for.

Charleston City Night Market

The night market is only open on Fridays and Saturdays during certain months of the year. But it is a popular place for shopping. This market is three blocks long and is lit up to make it even more festive than it is. Every vendor is from the area. They sell items that they, or other local artisans, make.

The live entertainment only adds to the ambiance, so make sure you take the time to stop and listen as you are doing your shopping. This is also the perfect place to grab a bite to eat if you skipped dinner or are planning on eating afterward and simply need a little snack.

When you are not exploring this wonderful market, you can always take one of the carriage tours or simply walk around the nearby neighborhoods.
