Does your family love to go on ski vacations? If you said yes, you are going to want to check out some of the best ski destinations in the US for your next family ski vacation! There are some incredible US ski destinations to choose from. And honestly, if your goal has always been to keep your travels close to home during the winter and have a “ski vacation near me”, you can probably reach that goal this year. It all depends on where you live and how close you are to some of the fabulous ski destinations this country is known for.
Aspen Snowmass is one of four ski areas in the Aspen area of Colorado. While these ski trails are known for their bumps and jumps, they are also known for being gentler. Aspen Snowmass is the best ski destination for families, because there are trails for all skill levels. And when your family is not on the trails, there are plenty of other things to do. Imagine spending a few hours snow tubing, riding the alpine coaster, or wandering around town. And at night, the stargazing options are plentiful.
Buttermilk is another one of the four ski areas in Aspen. This is another ski destination that offers options for beginning skiers. Therefore, it is an excellent option for a family ski vacation. Skiing at this ski destination is incredible. However, if you want to experience Buttermilk in a different way, your family must visit when the X Games are held in January. This is when you can see dozens of the top winter athletes compete out in the snow. Who knows… your kids may decide to become X Games competitors if you choose a family ski vacation in Aspen during this event!
Big Sky is a ski destination in southwestern Montana. Since this area gets approximately 400 inches of snow each year, there is never a bad day to ski or attempt any other winter sport! Your days at this best ski destination in the US can be spent skiing the slopes on any of the 6,000 acres of land. And at night, your family can venture down to the Mountain Village to grab a bite to eat and sit by the fire.
So far, I have focused on ski destinations out towards the western states. But there are a few amazing US ski destinations right on the East Coast too! In Stowe, Vermont, your family can conquer any of the 116 ski trails during your vacation. This ski area includes both Spruce’s Peak and Mount Mansfield. The former is perfect for beginner skiers, while the latter is where all the thrill seekers head for an adventure. When your family is not on the slopes, you may find yourselves out on a dog sled or ice skating on a rink nearby.
Out in Wyoming, Jackson Hole will be beckoning to you for your next family ski vacation. Some of the best ski trails can be found in this part of the country. And you have multiple resorts to choose from for your stay. Your family will be busy skiing and snowboarding the trails during the day. But when you need a little time away from the slopes, you can venture over to take a tour of the National Elk Refuge. Although, you may prefer to send your family without you, so you can soak in the Granite Hot Springs.
In Idaho, the best ski destination is Sun Valley. There are 121 downhill skiing trails to choose from during your visit. But if your family is not a fan of going downhill, you can always stay on flat ground and conquer the 25 miles of Nordic trails.
Taos, New Mexico normally doesn’t get the love it should from skiers in the US. This is a shame, because this charming small town has 110 fabulous trails waiting for your family! Easier runs are available for beginner skiers. So, if you have a few beginners in your family, they can start slow and work their way up to the expert levels on Kachina Peak.
Colorado simply has so many ski destinations. And thanks to all the snow they get out there, many of them always make the best ski vacation for families list. Steamboat Springs is one of the ski destinations. The 3,000 acres of trails include options for beginners all the way to expert skiers. And if your kids prefer to snowboard instead of ski, they can choose from any of the 3 terrain parks. At the end of the day, you can sit your kids down by the fire, while you take a soak in the mineral springs at Strawberry Park Hot Springs.
It is still all about the Olympics at the ski destinations in Park City, Utah. When your family is not out on the slopes, you can relive Olympic history at the Utah Olympic Park. Nights are also best spent in the Historic Park City area or snow tubing at Gorgoza Park.
These are some of the incredible US ski destinations for your next family ski vacation. There are many other ski destinations scattered around the US, so you could easily choose an amazing option close to your home. No matter how far you go though, a family ski vacation is always perfect for creating those precious memories with your kids. They grow up really quickly, so make sure you take the time to spend with them now.
