As an expert family travel advisor, I strive to create personalized vacation itineraries for families like yours. Over the years, I have teamed up with reputable companies who have created European vacations for other travelers. I’ve learned a few things working with those companies and by traveling throughout Europe myself. One of my favorite family adventures is traveling through Italy. The unforgettable culture, rich traditions, and vibrant history is something your entire family will love.
Now is the time to grab your walking shoes and get ready for a family adventure of a lifetime. I am ready to plan your action-packed, all-inclusive vacation in Italy. You will spend your days exploring the countryside. Nights can be spent sipping on wine, as you watch the sunset from a local restaurant or the Spanish Steps.
Expert guides will be waiting to show you the highlights of Italy. Although, they will focus more on the hidden gems that only the locals are fully aware of. Now is the time to make memories with your family that will last a lifetime. This will be possible as you fall in love with the gorgeous countryside. And as you wander through the city streets in search of the perfect gelato. Think of all the laughter and joyful conversations you will have with your spouse and children.
Maybe this is a family adventure that the grandparents are invited on as well. Three generations together are perfect for making even better vacation memories.
Arrive in Rome and be transported from the airport to the Hotel Gran Meliá Rome. Check into your hotel, which is located right on the shoreline of River Tiber. You will need to wait to explore the lush gardens and swim in the pool. This is due to your guide taking you to The Colosseum for a tour. Immerse yourself in history, as you learn how this structure was used after it was built in AD 70-72. Afterwards, a welcome reception and private dinner will be held at the hotel.
Today’s family adventure in Italy begins early with tours of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. These tours are private, so they will be worth the early morning wake-up call. Afterwards, a delicious breakfast back at the hotel will get you refueled for the rest of your day.
A stop at St. Peter’s Basilica is next and you won’t be ready to leave when it is time to board the motor coach for a tour of the city. However, you will be thrilled with the break and the opportunity to sit, as you experience history through the eyes of your expert guide.
A walking tour will get you closer to the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant when your walking tour is finished.
The afternoon will be all yours, as will the evening. This is the time to venture out to all those places you wanted to spend more time at earlier in the day.
Day three begins with breakfast at your hotel before you travel to the town of Orvieto. The best way to experience Orvieto is to explore it on your own. You can’t get lost. Plus, you will want to find your own perfect spot to capture the Umbrian Valley views! Just don’t forget to stop into the Duomo di Orvieto. It is known for its Gothic appearance and details.
Lunch is at a local restaurant and then you will board the motor coach to drive to Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Tuscany. You quickly check into the Hotel Borgo di Cortefreda. Enjoy a welcome drink and catch up with new friends. Of course, you should also be hopeful you can stay awake later to enjoy the outdoor pool, Finnish sauna, and Turkish bath. Although, you may be able to squeeze a short swim in before dinner at the hotel.
When in Tuscany, you must do what the locals do. Today is all about learning how to make pasta at Fattoria Poggio Alloro. It is a working farm and a winery. So, you get the best of both worlds. A few carbs to eat and some wine to drink!
Younger travelers can learn how to infuse olive oils, as the adults are enjoying their wine tasting. After the wine tasting, it will be time to eat lunch, as you gaze out over the picturesque farm.
The afternoon can be spent at the hotel, as you relax in a food coma. Or you can go shopping, as you wander around Tavarnelle Val di Pesa. Dinner will be served buffet-style in a 15th century castle.
It is another day of traveling from one area of Italy to another. After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, you will be more than ready to relax during your trip to Florence. A guided tour of Florence will occur right after you arrive. This is when you can see the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and Piazza della Signoria up close. Of course, you will want to pay close attention to Michelangelo’s David as well.
After a quick lunch on your own, you will have a private VIP tour of Palazzo Vecchio. The halls are filled with masterpieces by Botticelli, Vasari, and Michelangelo. Family photos can be taken in medieval period costumes. Those photos will be cherished for many years.
The afternoon and evening will be yours to relax or explore all Florence has to offer. Then it will be back to your Tuscany hotel for a good night’s sleep.
Your trip to Venice will begin after breakfast. You will board a high-speed train for this family adventure in Italy. The kids will love the free Wi-Fi, because it means they can check-in with friends. You will spend your time uploading pictures from your family vacation up to this point.
As a travel advisor, and a mom, I have a tip for you when it comes to pictures. Only share a few favorites. Save the rest for when you return home. This way you can enjoy the scenery outside the train’s windows!
When you arrive in Venice, you must be ready for your private gondola tour. Your gondola will take you near the Rialto Bridge, as you glide along the Grand Canal. After your gondola ride, you will be more than ready to go on your private walking tour of the Piazza San Marco. The expert tour guide will share multiple stories with you throughout the tour.
A private boat will whisk you away to the Hotel Hilton Molino Stucky. This hotel is located on Giudecca Island. The island is where a flour mill was once located. After a welcome reception, you will be free to enjoy dinner on your own at any restaurant in Venice. I recommend a trattoria, but there are many local restaurants that will be amazing too.
A whole day in Venice awaits you on day seven of your Italy family adventure. After a delicious breakfast, you will tour the Doges Palace. Younger kids can play a detective game to prevent boredom.
Afterwards, the entire family will love making their own Carnevale mask at Tragicomica. An expert mask-maker will help you create your own masquerade masterpiece. The rest of the day will be spent on your own, as you explore your favorite places in Venice.
Just make sure you are back in time for a pirate-themed dinner on the Jolly Roger.
The morning will be spent packing your bags and eating breakfast. Transportation will already be arranged for you, so you can get to the airport or train station in time for your departure home.
Your family time in Italy would have been memorable and you will be more than ready to share all your adventures with friends and family when you get home.
