Is Pennsylvania one of those states that is close to home? Or has it always been on your list of places to visit while on a family vacation? Well, this is the year to try something new and finally take the time to visit Pennsylvania with your family! There are quite a few incredible destinations in Pennsylvania. However, I have three favorites that I know your family will love. So, celebrate National Pennsylvania Day with me by exploring everything this incredible state has to offer.
History lovers will want to spend a few days away from home exploring Gettysburg. This site contains approximately 6,000 acres of history. The best way to explore Gettysburg is via car. You can drive along the road that weaves throughout the Gettysburg National Military Park. As you drive along, you can pull over at each of the stops. You can also walk, or hike, during your visit. There are marked trails you can follow.
During your time in Gettysburg, take the time to see the Jennie Wade House, as well as the Eisenhower National Historic Site. You can also stand where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address.
Make sure you visit the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center too. The panoramic 360-degree cyclorama will have you stepping back in time to experience the war in Gettysburg firsthand. Lights and sounds accompany this experience.
Your family is going to discover a ton of historical attractions when you choose to vacation in Pennsylvania for National Pennsylvania Day. A trip to Philadelphia will have you checking out the Liberty Bell, visiting Independence Hall, and exploring the Reading Terminal Market. You can even visit the grave of Benjamin Franklin and check out the Betsy Ross House.
Younger kids will enjoy a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo or the Please Touch Museum. Family selfies are a must at the Love Sign inside Love Park. You will find this park across the street from City Hall. And you can’t spend time in Philly and not run up the steps like Rocky did at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Before you leave Philadelphia to go home, you should try a Philly cheesesteak. There are tons of places to get one. You just need to figure out which one will check off all the boxes for you!
A non-historic option for a vacation on National Pennsylvania Day is Hershey. This is a chocolate-lovers’ paradise! The nickname of this city is the Sweetest Place on Earth. And it truly is. I recommend beginning with Hershey’s Chocolate World. You can take a tour to learn how chocolate is made there.
After you get your chocolate fix, you can venture over to Hershey Park to tackle all the rides. All 70+ attractions offer a chocolate theme, so don’t think you will forget about chocolate anytime soon.
If you have the time, you can walk through Hershey Gardens and see the animals at the ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park.
There are many other destinations you can visit while on vacation in Pennsylvania. But these are the top three for National Pennsylvania Day.
