Disney World is one of the best theme parks for family vacations, because there is something for everyone. Little ones will love the character meet and greets during a vacation at Disney World. Older kids, and adults, will love Space Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. And who could possibly turn down a ride on It’s a Small World??
Those three rides are all inside though. Who wants to spend their time inside, when sunny Florida weather is waiting for you outside?? I decided I needed to determine which outdoor attractions were the best for a family vacation at Disney World. So, I did a little research (through numerous visits to the parks) and came up with a list of amazing outdoor attractions your family will love.
Climbing into an elephant and taking a ride is what storybook fairy tales are made of. This open-air ride lets you control whether you go up or stay down. I recommend choosing different options while going on this ride multiple times. You will be amazed at what views you will see from each one.
The Dumbo ride has been so popular since opening that Disney needed to create a second ride to keep up with demand. So, you know it definitely deserves to be on this amazing outdoor attraction list!
Space Mountain may be one of the more popular roller coaster rides at Disney World. However, when you want to be out in the sunshine, I recommend giving Big Thunder Mountain Railroad a whirl. Simply head over to the abandoned mining town of Tumbleweed and board what will eventually be the runaway mine train. The train will shake and tilt, as it travels through the town.
Make sure you hang on tight, so you don’t slide too far on your seat!
Another exciting roller coaster at Disney World is the Slinky Dog Dash. You will find this coaster inside Toy Story Land. It’s bright and cheery to look at. And your heart will be racing while riding. One of the features of this roller coaster is when the car is pulled back before springing forward.
You will want to keep your eyes open for this outdoor attraction. The spinning lights, as well as the sound effects are worth it.
The Kilimanjaro Safari is located in Animal Kingdom. The safari takes you through the Harambe Reserve to see the thirty-four different types of animals living at the park. The tour guides all share the same information on this safari. And yet, they will be the first to tell you that no safari experience is ever the same at Animal Kingdom.
Another amazing outdoor attraction at Animal Kingdom is the Kali River Rapids. Imagine being on vacation at Disney World on a really hot day. Now imagine riding in a raft down the Chakranadi River, as the rapids make sure you get soaked.
This wild ride is sure to become a family favorite!
The water is slightly calmer on the Jungle Cruise. But that shouldn’t stop you from jumping on the boat to listen to the skipper point out all the interesting things along the way. Each skipper shares the information differently. So, take a spin on the Jungle Cruise a few times to see how your views change.
The seven dwarfs were all unique characters, so why shouldn’t each train cart on this ride do its own thing?! Thankfully, the train carts rock gently. So, even the sharpest turns will not have you begging to get off this ride. And yes, despite the gentleness, this is still a must-ride. After all, you know you want to see the dwarfs hard at work at the mine.
These are a few of the most amazing outdoor attractions at Disney World. I recommend adding them all to your list when you are planning a family vacation at Disney.
