There are more than three hundred islands in Fiji, so I can understand why so many families like yours have a difficult time choosing one for family vacations. Thankfully, finding the best Fiji Islands for families is easier than you think. All you need to do is consider the islands that have family-friendly resorts, activities, and adventures. As a travel advisor, I can offer some guidance to ensure you are choosing the island that will fit your family’s needs.
Viti Levu is the main island in Fiji. This is where approximately seventy percent of the population lives. It is also the island where the international airport is located. Therefore, even if you do not choose Viti Levu for your family vacation, you will be spending a little bit of time on the island anyway.
There are multiple family-friendly resorts on this island in Fiji. Your days on Viti Levu can be spent exploring the larger cities or wandering through the mountain villages and national parks. Your kids will love ziplining high above the trees or rafting down the Navua River. While you will love doing those things together, you will probably want to seek a little downtime at the Garden of the Sleeping Giant or one of the local beaches.
The one activity you will all agree on though is shopping, whether at one of the malls in a city or at a local sari shop.
Families that love to be outside in nature will love the ambiance on the island of Taveuni. The nickname of this island is Garden Island, thanks to the lush landscape. This is an amazing Fijian Island if your family loves to hike to rushing waterfalls. The Bouma Heritage National Park is a popular destination for travelers. A visit to this island must include a walk along the Lavena Coastal Walk. This trail will lead your family five kilometers past sandy beaches and a few villages. In the end, you’re rewarded with views of a stunning waterfall.
Heading out to the Rainbow Reef is a wonderful way to spend a day when taking a family vacation on the island of Taveuni. However, there are other nearby islands your family can visit. So, do not be surprised if you do a little more island hopping than you originally planned.
Organic foods, authentic villages, and off-the-beaten path adventures are three of the things that draw families to the island of Kadavu. Yes, this island is remote. But that won’t bother families like yours if you are searching for a little solitude during your vacation.
Most of your time on this island will actually be spent out in the Fiji water by the Great Astrolabe Reef. This is the fourth largest barrier reef in the world. When you are checking out the colorful marine life, make sure you spend a little time exploring the reef’s cavern and tunnels.
Families that love to dive deep into the waters surrounding an island will want to add Vanua Levu to the top of their vacation list. Your family can begin by diving into the green bays. But it won’t be long before you are all venturing over to either the Namena Marine Reserve or the Rainbow Reef.
When you are not reconnecting with your kids in the Fiji water, you may find yourselves in a 4WD exploring the countryside. There are numerous plantations to check out, as well as a few sandy beaches further away from town.
These are the best Fiji Islands for families, but that doesn’t mean you must choose one of them for your next family vacation in Fiji. When we talk, I can share which other Fijian Islands might be the perfect fit for your family.
