Are you new to solo traveling as a female? Or are you thinking about embarking on a solo female trip? If you said yes to either of those questions, this is going to be an exciting time in your life! There are so many different destinations you can visit as a solo female traveler. And in each destination, you can venture out on solo adventures and participate in numerous activities. Add in a little pampering and tranquil time and you can have the perfect vacation experience! And those are just a few of the reasons solo female travelers should embrace vacations. Today, I am sharing a few of the best tips for solo female travelers. These tips will help you navigate through new destinations, as you begin to travel the world by yourself.
Okay, my first tip for anyone traveling is to avoid overpacking. The last thing you want to do, whether as a solo female traveler or a group traveler, is lug multiple pieces of luggage around.
A small suitcase and carry-on bag are all you should need as a solo female traveler. Utilize packing cubes to keep things organized and condensed.
You are going to meet so many people when you travel the world. At times, you may find yourself flagging down a taxi or sitting next to a stranger on a train.
It is best to never tell these people you are traveling by yourself. Pretend you are meeting your group or even your spouse. This is one of my top tips for solo female travelers.
Obviously, there will be circumstances where it is okay to let a person know you are traveling alone. A fellow traveler during a day tour may become a close friend after numerous conversations. So, follow your gut and only share this information wisely.
It is always best to know the emergency phone numbers of the destination you are visiting. Remember, not every country has 911 like we do in the United States. Over in the UK, you will need to dial 999 or 112. In Europe, the emergency number is 112, while China is 119.
Having the phone number for the concierge at your hotel is another great option. Your concierge may have other tips for solo female travelers, so connect with them during your arrival.
It is important for everyone to be aware of their surroundings while traveling. However, it is even more important as a solo female traveler.
Make sure you are aware of when people are walking behind you. You should also check to make sure someone isn’t deliberately following you. If you happen to see the same person behind you for quite some time, head into a local café or store, and see if they keep going. If they don’t, alert the authorities.
Your surroundings will also include the weather and local events. Inclement weather or large crowds at events can cause issues you will want to be prepared for.
I recommend being even more cautious while out at night while traveling. Choose to take public transportation at night instead of walking back to your hotel alone.
As a travel advisor, I can help you determine which areas normally have higher crime rates. You can then avoid venturing into those areas while on vacation. I can arrange for group tours and events at night, so you are never alone during the evening hours. I can even help you reschedule your vacation if a weather-related event occurs during your original travel dates.
Flashy jewelry, lots of cash, expensive cameras, and other valuables are prime items for thieves. Avoid carrying any of these items while exploring destinations as a solo female traveler. Or even while traveling with a group.
STEP is the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. Enrolling for this program will allow the US Embassy in the country you’re visiting to send you information in regard to safety, natural disasters, and even a family emergency back home if one occurs.
Always Purchase Travel Insurance
It can be tempting to skip purchasing travel insurance. After all, you want your money going towards your actual vacation.
However, travel insurance can save you thousands of dollars if your trip needs to be canceled for any reason. Or you get sick, have an emergency, lose your luggage, and so much more.
As a solo female traveler, you don’t need to venture out on a monthlong vacation right away. It may be best to start small with a weekend getaway. Or you can join a group of other solo female travelers for your first adventure.
Both these options will allow you to ease into the fun of solo travel, as you get comfortable exploring the world.
These are only some of the tips for solo female travelers. I can share many others that will help you during your solo travel adventures when I am planning your trip.
