Summer is quickly approaching. You may have just finished attending graduation ceremonies or will be attending one soon. It is during this time of the year when you realize that your kids grow faster than you thought possible. One minute they were babies and depending on you for everything. And now, they may be approaching adulthood and are more than ready to be out on their own. If you are like me, you are going to want to embrace every second you can get with your kids during this time in their life. This is where traveling as a family can be quite helpful. Each family vacation you take allows you to make memories together. And those memories will be talked about at every holiday dinner forever.
You may think you know all the transportation options for traveling as a family. After all, you can drive, fly, take the train or bus, or go on a cruise. But did you know you can also take a private jet? It is completely possible to avoid much of the airport hustle and bustle by taking a private jet on your next family vacation. As a travel advisor, I can easily book your next family vacation with this convenience, depending on where you want to travel.
But first, let’s dive into the different transportation options for traveling as a family. This way you know exactly what you are getting into, as you spend this precious time with your kids.
I am going to start with traveling as a family via private jet, since not too many people are aware of this option yet. And the people who are aware all seem to think it is way out of their budget.
However, flying on a private jet during family vacations is not really that much more expensive than flying like you normally would. And the benefits really outweigh the extra cost. A main benefit is the fact you can see so many more destinations in a short period of time. Once you add in less time for security clearance, boarding, and taking off, you will probably see why more people are choosing this mode of transportation for family vacations.
When you choose to take a private jet, you won’t spend hours driving from one destination to the next. Instead, a short flight will have you enjoying more of the sights, as you make memories with your family.
Airplanes are excellent options for when you want to travel long distances as a family. However, when you choose to fly, you are normally stuck in one destination for the duration of your family vacation. Unless of course you choose to rent a car and drive to nearby areas.
There are no whirlwind family vacation options that take you to multiple cities in only a few days. And since you need to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to your flight, you are losing precious vacation time.
Family road trips can be a lot of fun. At least, once you take the actual driving out of the picture. No one really wants to be stuck in a car for hours each day. Although, lots of fun can be had during the driving times if you plan ahead.
You know, stopping in new-to-you areas. Grabbing a bite to eat at a diner you just happened to be driving by. Or purchasing a souvenir at that souvenir store that is twenty miles out of your way.
If your family really loves road trips, you may not think twice about hopping into the car for one this summer. However, you must remember that all the driving takes time. And that limits the time you have available at each destination you stop at.
Not everyone can take three or four weeks off from work to do a road trip properly nowadays.
Traveling as a family by train can make your life so much easier during family vacations. No one needs to be responsible for driving or paying attention to the GPS. And a train can allow you to reach your destination much faster than you could by car.
There is a downside to taking a train though. You definitely won’t be able to stop at different towns or cities along the way to your vacation destination.
Buses are becoming popular for vacations once again. Especially those that offer an all-in-one tour experience. The buses do not move as quickly as trains. But they offer the same goal of arriving at your destination without a lot of work on your part.
Of course, this is another mode of transportation that doesn’t allow you to get off whenever you want to simply check out a new destination!
Cruises are perfect for when you want to see multiple ports in a week or ten days. Once you board the ship, you have everything you need for the duration of your family vacation. You won’t need to switch accommodations. Your meals will be prepared for you. And if you plan excursions, you won’t have difficulty navigating each port of call.
There are obviously pros and cons to each transportation option I listed above when traveling as a family. If you have lots of vacation time, you can easily choose any mode of transportation. However, if you are short on time and want to do as much as possible, your options become more limited.
As a travel advisor, I can help you find the best transportation option for your next family vacation. Once we have that settled, I can then plan the rest of your family vacation according to the needs and wants of each family member.
Remember, the time you have with your children before they turn into adults is short. What better time than now to take a few memorable vacations you will all remember forever?
