Today, I am going to share the underrated places to visit in the US that will be perfect for a future family vacation.  

Underrated Places to Visit in the US 

Schoodic Peninsula in Maine 

Maine is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the US. Especially during the summer months. Avoiding Acadia National Park and heading to the Schoodic Peninsula will have your family staying away from the crowds. This peninsula is only an hour away from Acadia. So, you can easily visit the national park during a day trip if you want.  

Pecos National Historical Park in New Mexico 

Pecos National Historical Park is only a quick thirty-minute drive from Santa Fe. However, not too many people are aware of this park when they take a family vacation in New Mexico. This park is full of indigenous history and culture, as well as the ruins of a Mission church.  

A hike through this park will take you to two underground ceremonial chambers, known as kivas. Don’t worry, the hike is only a mile long. So, you will have plenty of time to explore the rest of the park.  

Upper Peninsula in Michigan 

Lots of families head to Lake Michigan to spend a little time together. If you want to avoid the crowds, I recommend going to the Upper Peninsula instead. There are three Great Lakes on this peninsula. So, your family will have many options for water sports and swimming. Consider paddling around the Les Cheneaux Islands or taking a cruise on Lake Superior.  

If you happen to head to Mackinac Island, be prepared for it to be busier than the rest of the Upper Peninsula.  

Jensen Beach in Florida 

Just to the north of West Palm Beach, your family will discover Jensen Beach. This coastal town used to be the Pineapple Capital of the World. Now it is a laidback place where you can make memories on the sandy beaches and while eating delicious seafood.  

Jensen Beach does get crowded on Thursdays when the weekly street party, Jammin’ Jensen, is held. It is also busy during the three days of the Pineapple Festival.  

Driggs in Idaho 

Don’t want to spend all your time in Jackson Hole or Teton Pass while on a family vacation? Head over to Driggs, Idaho instead! This small mountain town offers a charming Main Street and nearby ski resort. This is the perfect underrated place to visit in the US during the winter for a family ski trip. You will definitely make memories here without the crowds!  

Kansas City in Kansas 

Okay, you can easily switch between Kansas City in Kansas and Missouri when you take a family vacation to this underrated place in the US. Your family will love visiting museums like the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. And no one will be able to resist the delicious barbecue!
