So many families choose to visit Paris during vacations in France. While you can make numerous memories with your family in the City of Love, there are so many other destinations to discover in this country. If you want to avoid the crowds, spend cherished time with your loved ones, and truly embrace your time away from home, I recommend taking a vacation in a fairytale village in the South of France. Saint Paul de Vence is one of the most amazing fairytale villages in the world. This beautiful fairytale village is located on a hilltop in the Cote d’Azur region. This region is in the South of France. It is a fabulous place to spend time on a family vacation. Today, I am going to share why you should choose this fairytale village in the South of France for your next family trip.
You will find everything you need inside the fairytale village of Saint Paul de Vence. Winding cobblestone streets lead to art galleries, stunning water fountains, and charming cottages. It is simple to explore this region at your own pace, making memories with your family along the way.
Saint Paul de Vence is not the only storybook area in France. You will find other storybook towns in France that are perfect for family vacations.
The village of Saint Paul de Vence has a large fortress that was constructed during the 16th century. Francis I Valois, who was the King of France, decided a fortress was necessary to keep the area safe.
The cobblestone streets were not in place when the fortress was constructed in this medieval village. Those were laid down during the 1950s. The goal was to make the streets look nicer to those who chose to visit this fairytale village.
There are thirteen different historical sites to see while on a family vacation in Saint Paul de Vence. I recommend beginning with the Collegiate Church. This church’s history dates back to the 14th century. Over the years, this church has had numerous features added in different styles. The main feature everyone wants to see is the chapel that was dedicated to Saint Clement. Inside this chapel, you will see relics that were discovered in the catacombs in Rome.
Other churches and chapels in the area include the Folon Chapel, Chapelle Saint Charles-Saint Claude, and Chapelle Notre Dame des Gardettes.
You may also be interested in stopping at The Cemetery. This cemetery is located where Plateau du Puy once stood. There are many famous people buried at The Cemetery. The most famous is Marc Chagall. He was a local artist who painted local landscapes.
The Place de la Grande Fontaine is the busiest square in this fairytale village. There is quite a bit of history to be found in this square. You simply need to take the time to look. And listen to the locals who share stories from the past.
Numerous celebrities and artists have called Saint Paul de Vence home over the years. Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall were two of the artists who created fabulous masterpieces while living in this fairytale village.
You can see some of their works of art at the Frédéric Gollong Gallery and the Guy Pieters Gallery. You will discover works of art by André Verdet at the Musée de Saint-Paul.
Beautiful art can also be seen at the Foundation Maeght. This white-washed building contains numerous collections of 20th-century artwork. Pay close attention to the stained-glass windows. Take the time to relax in the tranquil courtyard to relish what you have seen during your visit.
As you can see, you don’t need the hustle and bustle of Paris to enjoy a family vacation in France. The fairytale village of Saint Paul de Vence has everything you need to make memories you will cherish forever with your family. You can all talk, laugh, and simply enjoy the moment as you walk along the cobblestone streets in this medieval village in the South of France.
