Today, I am sharing some of the best haunted houses in the US you can visit during a family vacation.

Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast 

The Lizzie Borden house is located in Fall River, Massachusetts. This house is where Lizzie Borden killed her father and stepmother with an ax back in 1892. Although, Borden was found not guilty of the crime. So, no one really knows exactly what happened on that fateful day.  

What we do know is this home is now a bed and breakfast. Your family can stay in this haunted house to see if you can feel any of the ghostly presences. There are nights when you may hear children laughing or a woman crying, as you are trying to sleep.  

If you don’t want to stay at this best haunted house in the US, you can still visit. Tours and seances take place here regularly and I recommend taking advantage of them.  

After your visit to the Lizzie Borden Home, you may want to consider a visit to Salem to check out the ghosts and witches there.

Bell Witch Home and Cave 

The Bell Witch Home and Cave is located in Adams, Tennessee. John Bell lived in this home with his family starting in 1804. He lived there for many years before strange things began to happen. According to the legend, the ghost of Bell’s neighbor, Kate Batts, started to torment Bell and his family.  

The torment began with strange sightings and ended with attacks on Bell and his daughter. The torment continued up until Bell’s death.  

Riddle House 

The Riddle House was constructed as a funeral home in West Palm, Florida back in 1905. The building was then turned into a private home in the 1920s. Strange noises and ghostly sightings began after the homeowner’s employee hung himself.  

The Riddle House was abandoned in the 1980s. Thankfully, this haunted home was moved to Yesteryear Village. You can wander through this house during your visit there.  

Villisca Axe Murder House 

Villisca, Iowa is where you will find the Villisca Axe Murder House. An ax murderer entered this home on the evening of June 10, 1912, and killed everyone inside. Six of those people were family members that lived there, while the other two people were friends of the children.  

No one has ever been able to solve the murder of these people. Your family can rent this home and try to see the presence of all the ghosts inside.  Although, those who have rented this house in the past have never been the same since! 

Ferry Plantation 

This plantation is located down in Virginia Beach, Virginia. There is quite a bit of history available on the Ferry Plantation. The ghostly presence seems to be Grace Sherwood. She was known as the Witch of Pungo. Her trial and imprisonment were both at Ferry Plantation and you can learn more about it all during your visit.  

Other ghosts on this property include Henry, Eric, and Mrs. Charles F. McIntosh. Henry was a former slave. You can often see him kneeling by a fireplace. Eric was a boy who fell out of a window of this home in 1850. And Mrs. McIntosh was a pregnant woman who was mourning. You can see her reflection in a window in the Best Parlor.

LaLaurie Mansion 

There are plenty of haunted locations in New Orleans, Louisiana. However, you will quickly learn why LaLaurie Mansion is considered one of the best haunted houses in all of New Orleans. You can check out this haunted house while watching American Horror Story if you can’t visit in person.  

The owner of the home, Madame Delphine LaLaurie, was a serial killer who tortured and killed people in her basement. Paranormal activity has been present in this house ever since.  

Franklin Castle 

Your family can see Franklin Castle during a vacation in Cleveland, Ohio. This castle was constructed back in the 1880s. It was where Hannes Tiedemann lived with his family. During your visit, you will learn how all the hauntings occurred after four of the couple’s children were killed.  

Franklin Castle has had many different owners since the Tiedmann’s left. They all reported different ghostly sightings, including seeing a woman dressed in black.  

Currently, this is a private residence, so you most likely won’t be able to enter the castle to look around.
