Leaping lemurs! Are you considering a family vacation in Madagascar? Hopefully you said yes, or you will at least consider it, because this destination is wonderful! You will find Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It is a few hundred miles off the East African Coast. There are so many beautiful, and unique, places to visit in Madagascar. Today, I am going to share the best places in Madagascar to visit with your family. Choose a few of them and make those incredible vacation memories!
One of the most iconic places in Madagascar is the Avenue of the Baobabs. These trees are massive. They can grow to be one hundred feet tall. You can find the baobab trees scattered amongst Madagascar. But they cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
While you can see them throughout this area, the Avenue of the Baobabs is the best spot. The best time to visit this spot is either right before sunrise or just before sunset. Just be prepared for crowds if you do go during those times.
Rare animals live within Masoala National Park. So, if you dream of seeing rare creatures, while walking through the rainforest, this park should be near the top of your list of things to do. Keep your eyes open, so you don’t miss the leaf-tailed geckos and the bright red tomato frogs.
If you look out towards Antongil Bay, you will spot humpback whales during their breeding season.
This park is located over in eastern Madagascar. It is where you will find the indri lemur within the Analamazaotra Reserve. There are thirteen other species of lemurs here as well. So, if checking out leaping lemurs is part of your family vacation plan, you now know where to go!
Another incredible place in Madagascar to spot lemurs is Ranomafana National Park. There are twelve lemur species within this park. However, this national park is known for so much more. It is also where numerous thermal springs can be found.
You can hike the trails to many of those springs, as well as waterfalls, during your visit. Just don’t forget to keep an eye out for the lemurs along the way.
The capital city of Madagascar is Antananarivo. This is one of the best places in Madagascar to go when you want to be amongst people. You can wander around this city while learning about the local culture and history. It is also an excellent place to go shopping for souvenirs and local items. Don’t skip past the restaurants. You will find lots of delicious cuisine at mealtimes.
This island can be found right off the coast of Madagascar. It was a popular island amongst pirates back in the 17th and 18th centuries. There are remnants of authentic pirate ships in the water near this island. Head over to Baie des Forbans for the best views of the pirate ships.
There are a few incredible beaches in Madagascar. However, one of the best is Nosy Iranja on the north shore. The beach is actually a long sandbank that is between two islands. The small island is private. However, the larger island is a fishing village. You are welcome to visit there and meet the locals.
The word Tsingy means a place where no one can walk barefoot. This is quite true about this national park, because it is full of stone spires created from jagged limestone. Thankfully, there are platforms that were constructed throughout this national park. So, you will be able to easily walk around while admiring the views.
These are the best places in Madagascar to visit during your family vacation. I can easily make sure you see as many of these areas as you wish when I am personalizing your family vacation itinerary. And don’t worry, I will add other fascinating destinations and activities to your itinerary, so your family has the best time.
