Have you ever tried Fly Fishing?
Are you looking for a family vacation in Oregon? Traveling to the Umpqua River in Oregon will allow you to conquer specific challenges like fly fishing. There are even more things to do in this area though, so you can easily fill a few days for a family getaway near the Umpqua River.
The Umpqua River is more than one hundred miles long. This river is actually split into two and referred to as the north and south Umpqua. The south Umpqua runs along the Pacific Coast in the state of Oregon. The water from this river is sourced from the area of Roseburg. It then flows in a northwesterly direction until it reaches Winchester Bay and ends up in the Pacific Ocean. The North Umpqua starts flowing at Maidu Lake and continues until it reaches South Umpqua.
Fish to Catch in the North Umpqua River
Fish to Catch in the South Umpqua River
- Steelhead
- Striped bass
- Smallmouth bass
- Chinook Salmon – These are everywhere in the river, but it is illegal to catch them.
While you can fish in this river using bait, it is considered the ultimate challenge to do a little fly fishing. In fact, catching a fish using the fly fishing method will mean that you are quite the skilled fisherman/fisherwoman.
You can go out for a little fly fishing on the Umpqua River on your own. However, I recommend taking one of the fly fishing trips. These trips will have you heading out to the water with a guide. The guide will know where the best places are to fish on the river that day.
These fly fishing trips are available during the summer and winter months. This means you can easily plan your Umpqua River family getaway for a time that is convenient for you.
I would love to make your fly fishing dreams come true by planning an ultimate family vacation in Oregon for you! If you know that your family would love spending time in the outdoors on the Pacific Coast, or anywhere else in the world.
Oh, and don’t worry, you don’t need to go fly fishing when you are in this part of Oregon. I can find so many other options for you and your family!
